Introducing Thomas James Meyer

We welcomed Thomas James Meyer to our family on Wednesday June 29th at 4:07am. He weighed in at 8lbs and 6 oz and was 21 inches long.

It is hard to believe that he is a week old already! We are loving him and his snuggles. Although, we of course are working out some of the newborn fussiness issues right now and praying that we can get his little tummy feeling better soon here!

Kora is adjusting well to being a big sister. We have seen some behavior changes in her and she has started acting out a bit as a way to get our attention. But overall she is doing well and loves Thomas. She loves looking at him and giving him kisses.

The delivery went fairly well. I was in the early labor stage for 2 full days with contractions that were about 4 minutes apart. On the second day of this early labor stage we went to the hospital at about 6pm - we were there in the triage room for 2 hours waiting to see my doctor - when she finally was able to come and check me she said I was actually leaking amniotic fluid and so they were going to admit me! Wahoo! By 10:30pm that night I was on pitocin to speed up my contractions. Things progressed fairly quick at first and before I knew it I was having very painful contractions and Cody's birth coaching skills were getting put to a big test! My doctor came in and wanted to completely break my water, once this was done I was more than ready to get my epidural. About an hour later I was feeling a lot more comfortable. I was able to rest a bit from about midnight to 2am. By 2am I was having some really bad chills and was getting sick to my stomach. They took my temp and realized I was running a fever. They started me on some antiobiotics right away. At about 3:50am my doctor came in to check my progress again and informed me it was BABY TIME, time to push! While she sang the Happy Birthday song, my doctor got all geared up in her baby catching outfit. I pushed through 3 contractions which was less than 10 minutes time and Thomas James arrived at 4:07am! When he arrived they did discover that the fever I had during labor had been passed to him. So they took him to NICU at about 6am to put in an IV and administer antibiotics. He was brought back to us in our recovery room at about 9:30am.They were just being cautious, he ended up fine but they did not want him to have an infection of any kind. We ended up having to stay an extra day in the hospital so that they could finish him out on antibiotics.

Overall, things went really well. I felt like most of his delivery was fairly familiar since I had experienced most of the same stuff when I delivered Kora.  Cody was such a huge help during the whole process. He did a great job of holding my hand, helping me breath and keeping me calm. Now that Thomas is here I am reminded once again how good of a team Cody and I make with taking care of a baby. I am so thankful for a husband who dives right in and has such good parenting instincts.
